Some constituent tasks of the collaborations listed below involve Extra Byte while others involve personally Stan Sýkora. Since Extra Byte is a one-man Enterprise, this makes little difference ...
*** Collaboration with Mestrelab Research on NMR spectroscopy software.
Mestrelab started as a Santiago de Compostela University spin-off. It is a successful Company run by a team of scientists developing innovative NMR spectroscopy software (the well-known MestreC and the more recent MestreNova). Stan is developing the number-crunching libraries needed to simulate, fit and interpret NMR spectra of large, coupled spin systems.
Though the original goal of the collaboration was the implementation of traditional spectral simulation techniques (simulation, fitting and automatic analysis of HR-NMR spectra), we are now moving into advanced research areas such as structure verification and multiplet spin-coupling analysis based on AI wizards.
*** Cooperation with the Physics Department of University of Bologna.
These contacts started with a series of Lectures on NMR Instrumentation in 1999-2000 and then continued on various levels. At present the collaboration aims at developing new NMR relaxometry methods for systems with a wide spread of relaxation times. This matches also the interests of the DICMA NMR Lab (MRPM) dedicated to the NMR of porous media which has been founded by the late Prof.G.Cesare Borgia and is now headed by his wife Dr.Paola Fantazzini (with an external support by Dr.Robert J.S. Brown, the pioneer and promoter of NMR well-logging and relaxometry of water and oild in porous rocks).
The collaboration has led, among other things, to a patent owned by the University of Bologna and known under the nick-name of PERFIDI.
